Chandrababu must clarify on bauxite mining: Balaraju

Dec 3, 2015

Former Minister and Congress leader P. Balaraju said that Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu should decide on whether he is standing by the statement he made in Assembly opposing bauxite mining in Visakha Agency when he was Leader of Opposition or if he is withdrawing his statement and wants to take a decision going ahead with bauxite mining since he became the Chief Minister.

The Congress Leader slammed the white paper issued by CM Naidu on the issue of Bauxite Mining for considering the opinions of intellectuals. He lashed out at Naidu saying that the Girijans in the Agency and people in the area against the decision of bauxite mining due to its effects and other pollution factors and yet Chandrababu is asking for intellectuals to express the opinion. He questioned on how Girijans, who lacked computers and connectivity could express their opinions on the web portal.

Mr. Balaraju even read out the speeches made by CBN, Ganta Srinivasa Rao, who was the then Praja Rajyam MLA from Anakapalle, Chodavaram MLA K.S.N.S. Raju, and MLA Siveri Soma. These leaders have strongly opposed bauxite mining proposals made by the Congress government.
He recalled that TDP Chief Chandrababu Naidu though wanted to take up bauxite mining, has decided to withdraw the proposal after the Girijans expressed their opposition. Meanwhile Congress president N. Raghuveera Reddy and former Speaker N. Manohar would speak on the white paper issued, at a meet on 7th December.
