AP Govt set for new policy

The Andhra Pradesh government has taken the decision to promote production of robosand by offering power subsidy and exemption of VAT to the manufacturers of Robo sand, which is a substitute of the river sand. The state cabinet chaired by the Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has taken the decision.

Information minister P Raghunadha Reddy informed about the new policy in the offing, which will come into existence from February 2016. The areas that can produce one lakh cubic meters of sand would be referred as Sand Reach and will be up for auction and District-level sand committees headed by Joint Collectors would be constituted for checking on the sand issues.

The AP government is planning to adopt sand mining models operated in other states, to resolve challenges like of ownership and accountability, operational issues. States like Gujarat and Telangana earned about Rs. 100 crore and Rs. 150 crore through the mining developer model. The government has decides to spend 25 per cent of total revenues towards development of SHGs and another 25 per cent for farmers’ welfare.
